The Polysonic Ultrasonic Washout Unit

A New and Innovative Method for Washing Exposed Photopolymer Plates

Model 201 Polysonic Unit

The PolySonic Washout Unit is an adaptation of an established technology used for industrial cleaning applications. Ultrasonic cleaning works through the rapid release of a succession of shock waves through a water and detergent bath. These waves produce alternate compressions causing a process called “cavitation” which jars unexposed photopolymer from the plate.

The ultrasonic action removes every bit of unexposed material, even in the centers of the smallest type characters. There is no abrasion to the surface of the plate which can remove or distort type characters, a common situation resulting from hand or mechanically washing the plate with a brush.

Preparation for ultrasonic cleaning begins by mixing the washout solution. The tank is filled with ordinary tap water and detergent. The desired heat level is set and the solution warmed. The polymer plate is immersed in the solution, the timer is set and the cleaning process is completed in 10 to 20 minutes.

The same solution mixture can be used repeatedly. The exact number of washing cycles obtained before remixing is required depends on the size of the plates that are being washed and the length of time between washing cycles, but you can usually count on 8 to 10 cycles per mixture. When remixing becomes necessary simply drain the used solution with the included tank drain assembly.

Model 201 will wash a polymer plate up to 8-1/2” x 11-3/4”. Model 101 will wash a polymer plate up to 6” x 8˝”.

The PolySonic Washout Units are built with stainless steel components and feature digital control of the washing cycle length and the water heating system. Includes a stainless steel immersion basket and one year limited warranty. Available for operation on 110-120 volt, 60 Hz. power.
